Areas We Cover Across West Lothian
We arrange no-obligation solar surveys and quotes for homes in every part of West Lothian — Livingston, Bathgate, Linlithgow, Broxburn, Uphall, Whitburn, Armadale, East Calder, Mid Calder, West Calder and Blackburn. Installation is by our MCS-certified partner. Wherever you are in the region, we can assess your roof and provide a written quote for a paid installation.
West Lothian is a diverse region, mixing busy new-build estates, established suburban streets, historic towns, and rural villages. Solar panels work across all of it — the key is designing the right system for each roof and each household. Below is a guide to the main towns and villages we cover, with notes on the housing types and roof considerations specific to each area.
Livingston
Livingston is West Lothian's largest town and a core area for our solar installations. The extensive new-build estates around Livingston Village, Eliburn, Deans, Knightsridge and Murieston have large, regular roofs that are ideal for solar PV arrays. Many homes here are detached or semi-detached with generous south or east-west facing roof planes. We also survey the older properties in central Livingston, where roof sizes vary more and shading from established trees can be a factor.
Bathgate
Bathgate combines older stone-built properties near the town centre with modern developments on the outskirts. The stone and slate roofs common in older Bathgate streets need careful surveying — we check slate condition, roof structure, and whether the property is in a conservation area. Newer estates around Whitburn Road and the western side of town are straightforward for solar installation.
Linlithgow
Linlithgow is a historic town with a high proportion of older properties, including stone cottages and period homes near the canal and the loch. These properties require a sensitive approach — we assess slate roofs, listed-building constraints, and positioning that respects the town's character. Some Linlithgow roofs are excellent for solar; others have shading or structural limitations that we will discuss honestly. We also cover the newer developments on the eastern side of town.
Broxburn
Broxburn has a mix of traditional terraced homes and post-war housing, with newer developments adding family homes with larger roofs. Terraced properties can be suitable for solar depending on roof access and orientation — we assess this during your survey. The newer estates around Broxburn offer good potential for larger panel arrays and battery installations.
Uphall
Uphall sits alongside Broxburn and shares similar housing stock, with a village centre of older properties surrounded by modern developments. Roof orientations vary, and we survey each home individually to determine the best panel layout. Its position on the central belt gives Uphall homes good solar generation potential through the summer months.
Whitburn
Whitburn has a strong mix of ex-council housing, modern estates, and rural properties on the outskirts. Many homes have roof sizes well suited to a standard 8–12 panel system, and the relatively open aspect of many Whitburn streets means shading is less of an issue than in more densely built areas.
Armadale
Armadale offers a range of property types, from traditional terraces to modern family homes on the town's expanding estates. We survey homes across Armadale for both solar-only and solar-plus-battery installations, assessing each roof for orientation, pitch and shading.
East Calder, Mid Calder and West Calder
The three Calder villages sit close together and share similar housing characteristics. East Calder has seen significant new development, with family homes well suited to solar. Mid Calder has a charming older core with stone properties, while West Calder mixes traditional housing with newer builds. We cover all three and assess each roof on its merits.
Blackburn
Blackburn, between Bathgate and Livingston, has a mix of residential streets and rural surroundings. Homes here tend to have good roof access and less shading from tall neighbouring buildings, making them well suited to solar PV. We survey properties across Blackburn for both panels and battery storage.
Rural West Lothian
Beyond the main towns, we cover rural properties and farmsteads across West Lothian. Rural homes often have excellent solar potential — larger roofs, open aspects, and minimal shading. They are also good candidates for larger battery systems, particularly where grid connection is less reliable. If you are in a rural part of West Lothian, call us and we will arrange a survey.
